Resources - Organisations

There is a significant amount of information and resources available to support your organisation work with volunteers.

Many organisations provide information and resources for free. We don't want to replicate existing resources but we can perhaps guide you where to look.

Below is a listing of some of the places you can go to find resources:

Department of Communities

The Department of Communities' functions and responsibilities include services provided previously by the former Departments of Communities, Housing and Child Safety, Disability Services Queensland, the Indigenous Government Coordination Office and Sport and Recreation.

The Department co-ordinates volunteering across the Queensland government and has some great resources and information about volunteering here.

FaHCSIA

The Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) exists to support the Government and, through our Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries, to deliver on a broad range of social policy outcomes. Their vision is a strong and fair society for all Australians. Our mission is to support our Minister by collaboratively developing and implementing excellent social policy.

FaHCSIA provide Volunteer funding grants subject to application periods and conditions.

Australian Sports Commission (ASC)

The ASC is Australia’s primary national sports administration and advisory agency, and the cornerstone of a wide-ranging sports system. On behalf of the Australian Government, the ASC plays a central leadership role in the development and operation of the Australian sports system, administering and funding innovative sport programs and providing leadership, coordination and support for the sports sector.

Volunteering Australia

Volunteering Australia is the national peak body working to advance volunteering in the Australian community.  Its role is to represent the diverse views and needs of the volunteering sector while promoting the activity of volunteering as one of enduring social, cultural and economic value.

Volunteering Queensland

Volunteering Queensland are one of the partners involved in developing this site. They encourage, recognise, promote and advocate for voluntary participation to benefit the individual and community. You can access a range of support tools and information on the Volunteering Queensland website.

Australasian Association of Volunteer Administrators (AAVA)

AAVA is a professional association for individuals across all sections of the community who are involved with managing volunteer programs within the Australasian region, including Australia and New Zealand. Although people who manage volunteers in sport, recreation and fitness organisations tend to be volunteers themselves, this is not always the case. Whether volunteer or paid staff, 'volunteer managers' need all the assistance and support they can get. At the AAVA site you'll find support, information and resources.

International Perspective

Volunteers are just as important in other countries as they are here. Have a look at the Sport England website for some information on their volunteer issues, programmes and ideas.
